The following are several tips to help you enjoy your orchid longer:
- Place the plant in a spot with a lot of light, but not in direct sunlight.
- Water sparingly once a week. Keep the soil moist.
- Fertilize the plant monthly with plant food.
After the plant has flowered, prune it back to above the second bud and place the plant in a cooler spot, such as the bedroom or attic, for several months. Reduce the amount of water it receives to prevent the roots from rotting. The bottom of the pot, and thus the plant as well, must under no circumstances be allowed to remain standing in water.
Colored phalaenopsis undergo some discoloration with the passage of time. This is normal.
